Today is a craptastic day; grey clouds hanging ominously overhead, sprinkles of rain here and there—basically, not a day I usually associate with Athens. That was two days ago; sunny, cloudless, all-around beautiful.
In any case I’m all packed and ready to go. This whole semester is a mixed bag; academically, I’ve probably wasted my time. Partly it’s because I am not taking a class with Raish, Diamant, Kennell, or Wardle, who are more serious Classicists, and partly it’s because CYA isn’t exactly known for its academic rigor. I knew that; I just didn’t realize how much I’d hate it.
Socially, I’ve met some really cool people, hung out with Niki, who is awesome, and done more social things in a 4-month span than I have in my entire life (read: going to clubs, having fun whilst going to clubs, dancing—I mean, what?).
Personally, I think the travelling I’ve done, while not as extensive as everyone else, has been good for me. Being alone on all these different islands reminds me of all the things I like. Also, getting advanced certification has been a real achievement, and I’m really proud of myself for overcoming the whole almost-dying thing (and not getting nitrogen narcosis on my next deep dive).
I don’t regret coming to Greece at all; I love it, garbage strikes and transport strikes and angry grocery checkout ladies and all. It’s just CYA. Watch out for my strongly-worded evaluation in Oberlin’s Study Away office.
Anyway. My flight leaves in 11 hours, and my taxi comes in 7. I’ll be in Oberlin by Saturday. You punks had better be on campus.

I will be here. And, probably, by the time you get here on Saturday, done with all my Oberlin work forever.
It will clearly be a good day.
