I know I’m shouting

Didn’t want to jinx anything.

That is a lame reason for me not to post much up here, but it is essentially true. The past few months have seen me trying to establish a future for myself, which is basically applying to grad school. Luckily I heard from one already, and they admitted me, although I don’t know how much money I’ll be getting, which in my case is kind of important. But I’m glad for the good news, and I really hope more will come in the next couple of months.

In the meantime, I’ve gone back home, and once the semester starts I’ll have a lot more off my mind, and will be able to post more.

Now, back to regularly scheduled programming.

Also, WordPress looks so weird now. I have missed a lot since I was last here!

Been away, back again

23 June 2008 · Leave a Comment

Has it really been over a month since I last posted? In that span of time I’ve returned to the States and started my job with the library as the Reference Assistant (with Academic Commons somewhere in that title, but I don’t know where to stick it), failed to review Latin and/or read for Honors, slept through a tornado siren, and finagled a village house instead of Union Street out of ResEd.

Due to all that excitement, posting will be very light until the school year starts or something incredibly fascinating happens.

Parting is such sweet so-and-so

14 May 2008 · 1 Comment

Today is a craptastic day; grey clouds hanging ominously overhead, sprinkles of rain here and there—basically, not a day I usually associate with Athens.  That was two days ago; sunny, cloudless, all-around beautiful.

So I Didn’t Go To Mykonos…

10 May 2008 · 1 Comment

because two days ago I started feeling ill, and it got worse on the day of my Ancient Greek final, and I thought I’d be well enough to travel today, but alas. So I didn’t go to Mykonos, and consequently I am not going to get to see Delos.

I really should have done it sooner. Now I have these unused ferry tickets.

Okay kids, I’ve made up my mind

4 May 2008 · Leave a Comment

And I’m going to Mykonos/Delos this weekend.  Screw my finals (in Orthodox and Archaeology of Athens), I’m going to the birthplace of freakin’ Apollo.

‘Freakin’ Apollo’ is an epithet.  Well, it is now.

Stay tuned for pictures and whatnot.

Also, for those of you in Oberlin, my plans are still up in the air, but I will try hard to be there for Commencement.  It all depends on whether I get the Newberry job or not, kids.  If I’m working in Oberlin I will definitely be there.  If not, well, I’ll try.  Deal?

In other things

  1. I am now an Advanced Open Water Diver!  Yes, I did my Deep Dive yesterday, and it was fun.  I did not die.  Now, paperwork pending, I will have made €300 worth of diving worth it.
  2. 7 pages into the Orthodox paper…I am pretending really really hard that it matters, just like my advisor told me to, and it’s working, somewhat
  3. I only have 2 more days of class left, holy shit
  4. Finally submitted my honors proposal.  Still doing it on Menander.  It’s a matter of pride now; I’ve started and I won’t let the fact that there isn’t much of Menander’s text left stop me!

Whining about travel never gets you friends,

30 April 2008 · 4 Comments

but I’m going to do it anyway, so suck it.

This is my problem; this week would have been perfect for travelling. We get four days off, and seems everyone is going to Mykonos. Now, I don’t really care about Mykonos one way or the other, but I do want to go here.

For those of you who don’t know, this is Delos. Where Apollo and Artemis were born. Kind of a big deal.

Since I have work up to my eyeballs this week (hey, that’s a first!), I will have to do any travelling next week. The weekend in between my finals (I have exams on Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday). Balls, I say.

So the question is, is Delos worth failing two of my finals for? (Neither of those finals is Ancient Greek, which is really the only class I care about. Also, I haven’t been travelling for a month, which is simply heinous.)

Come on, people. Input is important. At the very least it will give me someone to blame should things go belly-up I value your opinion!

It’s almost Easter…

22 April 2008 · 3 Comments

and I am staying put in Athens for it. I was going to go to Crete, then Corfu, then got lazy. Also, I imagine travelling out of Athens during the Easter holiday would be a bitch. I will definitely check out services over Easter though.

And now, another list.

This is what I do nowadays

17 April 2008 · 3 Comments

Well, I lie. I have several things to do:

1. Read for my Orthodox paper, which I have stupidly decided to do on the Trinity, Personhood, Communion in the Anglican and Orthodox Churches

2. Figure out a topic for Honors. I’m sure it will have something to do with New Comedy. Which, apparently, nobody in the department has done before. Eush Tayco: Breaking New Ground and Other Things since 2000.

3. Well, actually, that’s it. Usually I would be freaking out about my future or something like that, but I am just too tired. And I have other things to worry about, like how can I continue to eat while my stove is still broken. Gyros are getting old.
